  1. Daisy didn't tell Tom that she was the one driving the car because she didn't really care about Gatsby. If she had cared about him she wouldn't have wanted him to be blamed for the death of Myrtle. In the end of the book Nick said, "... I could only remember, without resentment, that Daisy hadn't sent a message or a flower." This shows that she didn't care about Gatsby because she didn't write or anything when he died and she let him get blamed for the death of Myrtle. If I was Daisy I would've told Tom because I would've felt guilty knowing what I had done. The pros of not telling is she didn't get in any trouble and Tom wasn't angry with her and the con is the guilt that she must've felt.

    1. i agree with you, it does seem like Daisy does not care about Gatsby at all. She never send a flower to Gatsby's funeral, or even 100% acknowledges that she loves Gatsby. And at the end of the day, she still goes away with Tom Buchanan.

    2. I agree , it seems that daisy does not care about anyone but herself and if she really cared about Gatsby then she would've done something to show it or write a note to symbolize her love for him.

    3. I agree that if Daisy truly cared about Gatsby, then she would've done something either than keep quiet and leave in a rush. Daisy is selfish and careless and prideful. Daisy was too comfortable with her privledged lifestyle. I think she just felt caught in the moment with Gatsby, she liked the attention and the exciting life. I think eventually Daisy would've found a way out of Gatsby's life. If she told Tom she hit Myrtle, then I think that could cause a part of her life to fall apart

    4. Daisy was just a scared little puppy who likes her security. She knew Gastby wouldn't tell on her. She never really loved Gastby because if she did she would have turned herself in and saved Gatsby. The whole book she took Gastby for granted knowing full and well she wasn't going to end up with him.

    6. i agree she didn't like gatsby after they met for the second time she would've said something to tom and turned herself in for hitting some one

    8. I agree with some parts Daisy did love Gatsby and once she saw him again she wanted that same feeling. At the end when Gatsby died, Daisy just moved on like nothing believing that it was only for Gatsby's money.

  2. I agree with Hailey, if she truly cared and loved Gatsby she wouldn't have married Tom in he first place. I think she just wanted like how she planned it to be and with Mrytle out of the picture now and Gatsby taking the blame , her hands were clean and had nothing to worry about. She didn't even go to Gatsby's funeral with no call to any of the servants sending condolences..nothing !-Moriah Dickinson

  3. Daisy didn't tell Tom that she was driving the car that hit Myrtle because she didn't really care about Gatsby and she knew that no matter what he would take the fall for her. If it was me i would've told them because it would bring out the true side in them to see how they would react to it. Some pros and cons of it is that they are still together but she's lying about what actually happened.

    1. I agree, Daisy refused to face the truth that she killed a person because she values herself more than the relationship between Gatsby or anything else she ever owned. Therefore, I completely agree with your idea about she did care about other people.

    2. I agree, Daisy did not want to tell Tom that she was the one responsible because at that point in time she decided she really didn't care for Gatsby and she did not want to do ANYTHING that would alter her current lifestyle and status. Daisy was all about her social life, her wealth and her status. That is why on many levels he allowed Tom to have his affairs as she didn't want to do anything to disrupt her lifestyle so she accepted his behavior as a tradeoff.

  4. Daisy didn't tell tom that she was driving because she is selfish and didn't want to be connected to the incident. In this position I would tell my wife because keeping that inside without telling anyone will eat you alive. If you truly care about your significant other there are no cons to telling them. Also the pros to telling them is not having to carry the weight of the incident on your own.

    1. I agree with you because it is seen throughout the book that Daisy is only concerned about herself and she doesn't seem to have any regard for anyone else's well being. It is evident that Daisy doesn't care for anyone not even Gatsby or Tom.

    2. I agree with Matthew, she is self centered and did not want to take responsibility for what she did. The pros of not telling them the truth that she did it is that Daisy does not have to do jail time or tom spending money for the bail and what not.

  5. Daisy didn't want to tell Tom because then she would have to live with the fact that she was the one that killed Myrtle, who was someone Tom may or may not have loved. "But she and Tom had gone away early that afternoon, and taken baggage with them." Tom was under the impression that Gatsby not only killed Myrtle, but tried to take Daisy away from him. I don't blame Tom for wanting to go away. I would've told my husband because I wouldn't be able to live with the guilt that I killed somebody, even if it was someone my husband was cheating on me with, but I also wouldn't want my husband to think I'm a murderer. There are lots of pro's and con's.

  6. Daisy didn't tell Tom, or anyone for that matter, including Nick, because she cared more about what would happen to her than what what happen to anyone else. Daisy put on this facade acting like she really cared about Gatsby when in reality I think she just liked the thought of him and what he had to offer her, so when he took the fall for her she just rolled with it, not caring that it would put him in a really bad place. Even Nick, who was the one person who was really on her side said, "They were careless people, Tom and Daisy---they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back to their money on their vast of carelessness," which shows the reader her true colors.
If I were in Daisy's position I would tell my husband because you should be able to trust your significant other and it would give you a person to talk to and help you through the situation.

  7. Daisy didn't tell tom that it was really her who was driving the car because she thought that Nick and everyone else would see her as a victim and she didn't want to be put down as the bad one. Also that she wanted to seem as the only one important like she had never done anything wrong as if she was always the good one. the pros of telling at least she told the truth about it and the con is her having to live with it for the rest of her life knowing she didn't something like that and someone she knows was wrongly accused of it.

  8. I think Daisy didn't tell Tom because she wants to maintain her picture perfect life. Right now it's a little messy since Gatsby came into the picture and i don't think she wants the attention of her running a woman over on her. Daisy is selfish for doing this and should have owned up to her actions, but i also understand why she didn't tell Tom. The pros of not telling Tom is that no one could ever possibly find out because Gatsby is now dead and Nick wouldn't tell anyone. She also wouldn't face any kind of punishment. The con of not telling anyone is that she will have to live the rest of her life knowing that she has killed another person. I believe I would tell my husband because he would be a person i could trust and wouldn't spread this rumor.

    1. I agree that she is playing to much of a hopeless girl and now she just walked away like nothing happens. a little shady in my option

    2. I completely agree with Nina, This is exactly what I was thinking. Since she will not tell Tom she won't have to pay for her consequences, which is selfish and taints Gatsby's name furthermore. Time will pass and she will have to live with the burden of murder alone for the rest of her life, as long as she tells no one (besides Nick).

  9. The reason Daisy didn't tell Tom that she was behind the wheel when Murtle was killed is because she was looking out for her own well being and she was afraid of what Tom would say or do.

  10. Daisy didn't tell Tom that she was the one driving the car because she didn't want everyone to see her as the victim. Also she didn't care about Gatsby. If she had cared about Gatsby she wouldn't have let him take the blame for. In the book when Gatsby dies Daisy didn't even show up at his funeral if she cared for him in the least big she would have at least showed up for little while.

    1. I agree because Daisy was being selfish and didnt care about anybody else except herself and her reputation. Its honestly really sad.

  11. I think daisy was a very selfish person and she cared a lot about her reputation she said she loved both of the guys after she kissed Gatsby and said "You know I love you.” But I think she doesn't know how to love or got herself into something it's hard to get out of if she loved tom she wouldn't hide Gatsby from him and if she loved Gatsby she would have at least showed up to his funeral and she would have told what actually happened. If I were daisy I might not have told but me as a person I would have told before anything happened because I would be able to trust my husband. She might have been scared.

    1. I agree I think Daisy is extremely selfish but also think she is immature. I don't think she realizes that her actions have serious consequences because she has money to fall back on

  12. Daisy didn't tell tom because she was scared of the out come of the situation, I would of told my wife because honesty players a big role in a relationship, if she told tom then he would of not been as mad when he figured out

  13. She probably didn't tell tom because she didn't want tom to be mad or leave or something. I don't know what i would have done in that position. One big pro for telling would have been Gatsby life. I think that if tom knew that it was daisy that maybe Gatsby wouldn't have been pinned and he would still be alive.Daisy didn't tell him that she was the one who was really driving because he would of been mad thinking she did it on purpose or something.I don't really know if I would or not its probably a pretty rare situation to get in to.another Pro if she had admitted to being the one who did it would be Gatsby still being alive and another Con would of been Tom probably would of never forgiven her and divorced her.

  14. Daisy didn't want Tom to know because she thought that if she did, he would go off on her. Tom is basically Daisy security blanket. If something happens in her life, in this case the death of Gatsby because she accidentally hit Myrtle, she always has Tom to lean on to. The reason why she didn't tell Tom because she wanted to keep that security that she has in Tom.

  15. I think Daisy didnt tell Tom because she felt he would have flown off the handle if he knew SHE killed HIS mistress. She knew only Gatsby would look innocent enough to make Tom angry, but not psycotic. I would have told my wife if I had killed someone. The guilt would over rule me.

    1. I agree with Brennen because if she would of told tom he would of fliped out and maybe have left her. Then it would of left her alone and with no one to go to. I would of told my wife as well to be honest with myself and with her.

    2. I agree with Brennen. I think Daisy didn't tell Tom because Tom is Daisy's clutch, her only hope at maintaining the lavish lifestyle that she lives and if she told him she would put the fate of the rest of her life in his hands. Me personally, I would've told my wife because I would be with a person I could be openly honest with no matter the circumstances.

  16. Daisy probably didn't tell Tom that she killed Myrtle because she doesn't want Tom to be mad at her and maybe she thought that if Gatsby gets in trouble with Wilson she doesn't have to decide between Gatsby and Tom anymore. So Daisy and Tom can just forget about Gatsby and continue their normal life somewhere else."But she and Tom had gone away early that afternoon, and taken baggage with them." I would have told my husband that it was me driving the car because I couldn't take the guilt. I also feel like if Daisy would've told Tom it was her, Tom wouldn't have told anyone else. Because it never seemed like Tom really loved Myrtle anyways.

  18. I think she didn't tell Tom because she was worried she would lose that security with him. She didn't want Tom to leave her because If he did she might of gotten wrapped up in Jay's illegal stuff. I also don't actually think it would of changed anything I think Tom making sure his name wasn't spoiled would find a way to blame it on Gatsby.

  19. Daisy didn't tell Tom because she knew that Gatsby would take the fall for her no matter what and she wanted either Tom or Gatsby out of her life to make it easier and that was the easiest way. And I would tell someone I did something cause I couldn't ever let someone take the blame for something I did.

  20. i think she did tell him latter in life or after the incident. for one the truth never stays a kept secret and at the heat of the moment she might be looking for a way to escape form her nightmares. i personaly would have, dignity, is a value i hold dear one of the armys values in fact.

  21. I think Daisy didn't tell Tom she was driving the car out of fear. I think if he found that she murdered his mistress he would have acted out violently or even left her. If he were to leave her then she would lose the one thing she has been fighting for throughout the novel, security.

  22. i wouldn't have told my wife should would have been mad at me.

  23. I don't think Daisy told Tom because she had ended the cheating between him and Myrtle and George ended it between Daisy and Jay, so what's the point. It was best that "she and Tom had gone away early that afternoon, and taken baggage with them," to show that they moved on with life and looked past the mistakes. I personally would have told my husband because nothing solves issues like talking it out! :)

  24. Daisy didn't tell Tom that she was driving because she is selfish and didn't want to be linked to the incident. In this position I would tell my wife because keeping that yourself without telling anyone would just eat you alive. If you care about your spouse there is no harm to telling them. Also the bright side of telling them is not having to carry the weight on your own shoulder anymore.
