Chapter 6-9 Discussion Board Posts

Students,

As we finish The Great Gatsby, you will continue to participate in an online discussion board discussing key ideas and themes in the story.


  • You are required to respond to each chapter. 
  • Answer must include original thought.
  • Answer two (2) questions from chapters 6-9 (must include text evidence for full credit).
  • Respond to two (2) classmates from chapter 6-9. You can agree, respectfully disagree or elaborate on their answers. Must be an original thought. (no text evidence needed for responses to classmates, but it is always helpful)
  • Answers and Responses must be at least 3-5 sentences in length
  • Additional responses are encouraged. You can even post questions about the chapter.

Chapter 9

Why do you think Daisy didn’t tell Tom that she was really the one driving the car that day? Would you have told your husband/wife? What are the pros and cons of telling or not telling?

Chapter 8

Notice the foghorn and the kind of dreams Nick is having in the first paragraph of chapter 8 (p. 147). What kind of mood do the two create for Chapter 8? (Remember mood is the feeling or emotional atmosphere of the writing.)

Chapter 7

Daisy compares Gatsby to an advertisement of a man. Think of what the qualities of an advertisement are and then explain why Daisy thinks of Gatsby this way. (p. 119) (Response must be 3-5 sentences for full credit.)

Chapter 6

Reread p. 103-104. What does Gatsby not realize is happening? How does this relate to the fact that Gatsby is “new money”? (Response must be 3-5 sentences for full credit.)
